A chord is a straight line segment that connects two points on the circumference of a circle. It does not necessarily pass through the center of the circle.
If you know the radius (r) of the circle and the central angle (θ) subtended by the chord (in radians), you can use the formula: Chord Length = 2 * r * sin(θ/2). If your angle is in degrees, convert it to radians first by multiplying by π/180.
The sagitta (s) is the height of the circular segment, which is the perpendicular distance from the midpoint of the chord to the arc. If you have the radius (r) and sagitta (s), the formula is: Chord Length = 2 * sqrt(s * (2r - s)).
