Screen Size Calculator

Turn resolution and PPI into real-world screen size — same layout as conversion calculators.

The Screen Size Calculator helps you determine the physical dimensions of a display or its diagonal measurement based on resolution and pixel density.

Required Inputs & Typical Use Cases
  • Pixel Width

    Horizontal pixel resolution of the display (e.g., 1920).

  • Pixel Height

    Vertical pixel resolution of the display (e.g., 1080).

  • Pixel Per Inch (PPI)

    The density of pixels per inch, often provided in device specifications.

Common scenarios: (1) Convert laptop or monitor specifications into actual physical dimensions; (2) Compare two displays with different resolutions and PPI values; (3) Determine the area of a screen for design layouts; (4) Understand how mobile screens translate to physical size.

The Formula
Width = pixels₁ / PPI
Height = pixels₂ / PPI
Diagonal = √(Width² + Height²)
Area = Width × Height
  • PPI

    Pixels per inch

  • Width

    Screen width in inches

  • Height

    Screen height in inches

  • Diagonal

    Diagonal length in inches

Worked Example
  1. Example

    Resolution: 2880 × 1800, PPI: 220 Width = 2880 / 220 ≈ 13.1 in Height = 1800 / 220 ≈ 8.2 in Diagonal = √(13.1² + 8.2²) ≈ 15.5 in Area ≈ 107.4 sq in

Tips, Assumptions & Limitations
  • Ensure the PPI value is accurate to avoid misleading measurements.
  • Use manufacturer specifications when available for the most precise calculations.
  • This tool assumes square pixels and does not include bezels or casing.

To calculate the screen size of your monitor, you need to enter the resolution and PPI of your monitor into the calculator. The resolution is usually measured in pixels and can be found in your monitor's settings or documentation. The PPI, or pixels per inch, is a measure of the pixel density of your monitor. Once you have entered this information, the calculator will provide you with the screen size, area, and aspect ratio of your monitor.

Screen size refers to the physical dimensions of a monitor, usually measured in inches. Resolution, on the other hand, refers to the number of pixels that a monitor can display. A higher resolution does not necessarily mean a larger screen size, as the pixel density of the monitor also plays a role. The calculator takes into account both the resolution and PPI to provide an accurate calculation of the screen size.

To compare different monitors using the calculator, simply enter the resolution and PPI of each monitor and compare the results. The calculator will provide you with the screen size, area, and aspect ratio of each monitor, allowing you to easily compare and contrast different displays. This can be useful when shopping for a new monitor or trying to determine which monitor is best suited for a particular task.

The calculator provides the screen size in inches, which is a standard unit of measurement for monitors. The area is calculated in square inches, and the aspect ratio is provided as a ratio of width to height. These units are widely used in the graphics and display industries, making it easy to understand and compare the results.
